Joel Hall Dancers & Center awakens the dancer in everyone’s soul. By highlighting and spotlighting the Black and Brown LGBTQIA+ experience, we provide comprehensive dance education and artistic expression. We believe dance is a powerful tool to educate and inspire, offering not only instruction in techniques but also deep insights into the history and cultural significance of dance. Our commitment to making dance accessible and affordable helps break down barriers and challenges oppressive systems. Joel Hall Dancers & Center’s company is comprised of three tiers, the First Company, the Second Company, and the Youth Company, where dancers fresh or seasoned assemble to strut, leap and show out in front of the bright lights of the Chicago Dance Scene!

CO-FOUNDER & ARTISTIC DIRECTOR EMERITUS
Joel Hall — a native of Chicago’s Cabrini Green neighborhood — established and co-founded the Chicago City Theatre Company in 1974. This unique performing arts organization includes the Joel Hall Dancers, one of Chicago’s premiere professional concert dance companies, and a training facility known as the Center. Hall was the Artistic Director and prime choreographer for his dance company and the Chief Dance Instructor for the training studio. He has mentored dancers who direct Joel Hall Dancers II and Joel Hall Dancers Youth Company.

Founded in 1974, The Joel Hall Dancers (JHD) have a rich 48-year history. Today, JHD continues to dazzle audiences in venues throughout the Chicago metropolitan area, across the country, and around the world. Having dedicated his life to the development of Urban Jazz Dance, a method that translates life experience through dance, Joel has touched the lives of thousands of young artists.
