JHDCKidsatBarreWelcome to the JHDC Youth Division – dedicated to dance, discipline & diversity!

Dance helps promote and create opportunities for self-expression and communication. It offers students valuable life-skills of problem solving, creativity, and learning from other cultures in order to foster a better understanding and respect for themselves and other people.

At Joel Hall Dancer & Center our students will learn terminologies, proper technique, body awareness, strengthening, and movement control in disciplines from Classical Ballet to Modern and Jazz.

JHDC Youth Division offers classes for Preschool (2 to 6 yrs.), Elementary (7 to 11 yrs.), and Teen (12 to 17 yrs.).

We introduce students to coordination, rhythms, and body awareness in well structured classes; introducing students to the fundamentals of Ballet, Hip Hop, Jazz, Modern, and Tap.  Dance improves the health, socialization skills, and self-esteem.

The one who wins is the one who thinks they can.

Pre-School Division Students (2 to 6 years old):

Every child enjoys learning, especially when their teachers excite their inquiry.  Parents often have to answer every question of, what’s that? Because…. Why? Because… Why? Because… How?  Because… I guess we know the routine.  Faculty at JHDC love to answer the why and how through dance movement and motivation.

Pre-School students will enjoy exploring motor skill development along with meeting with new friends they may not have had the opportunity of meeting in any other environment.

With recitals, children in our pre-school program also learn early in performance to explore the potential that they are becoming both on and off stage, nurtured by teachers that are themselves performing artists.

Elementary Division Students (7 to 11 years old):
Dance is a very exciting activity for elementary level students.  Elementary students are encouraged to develop technique through ballet, jazz, modern and tap.  At JHDC we encourage inquisitiveness, and help students understand the questions to ask for a particular outcome.

We strongly urge correct technical training so that our students learn at an early age how to preserve and respect themselves and their bodies — which can apply to all aspects of their lives in their developmental journey.

Technical training is specifically based on the Lester Horton and Martha Graham modern techniques, Cecchetti ballet technique, Joel Hall Jazz Dance Method, Musical Theater, Tap and Hip-Hop.

Teen Division Students (12 to 17 years old):
Teens at JHDC are urged to develop strong technical training, as well as dance etiquette and respect for themselves & others — both inside and outside of the classroom.

Our training continues to be specifically based on the Lester Horton and Martha Graham modern techniques, Cecchetti ballet technique, Joel Hall Jazz Dance Method, Musical Theater, Tap and Hip-Hop — with an enhanced focus on increasing flexibility, learning rhythmical patterns, examining more interest in the arts.

JHDC teen students are exposed, on a regular basis, to professional adults who are either currently engaged, or have had extensive careers in their specific idioms.

Teens are in performance and in recitals — as well as eventually being positioned to be able to audition for the Joel Hall Dancers Youth Company.

Summer Camps (3 to 17 years old):
This year’s summer camps are structured to run for five weeks from July 9th – September 10.
You may enroll your child in one, two, three… or all five weeks!

Each weekly camp will focus on particular techniques & themes (the teen camp will focus on a specific dance genre each week). Preschoolers will have the choice of one or two classes each day, while elementary will have three classes each day. Teens will follow a daily schedule of technique, repertoire and choreographic classes.

Each Friday of each weekly camp will culminate with a themed showing for parents and families. This enables the dancers to showcase the skills they’ve been working on throughout the week.
