We are the Change!
Individual and intersectional communities come together for Juneteenth and Pride to celebrate progress and connect over visions for the future. In this action of honoring our collective legacy, the Joel Hall Dancers are excited to partner with fellow Chicago Black Dance Legacy Project company Muntu Dance Theatre* to present “We are the Change!”
"We are the Change!" is a Juneteenth celebration of the Joel Hall Dancers’ rich Black and LGBTQIA+ history, highlighting the unique voice of Joel Hall, a choreographer who has been shaping the artistic landscape in Chicago long before structures of power wanted to acknowledge or properly credit his voice and perspective.
Joel Hall’s choreographic voice is echoed by those of Jacqueline Sinclair (Artistic Director) and William Gill (Associate Artistic Director), descendants of Joel Hall’s dance lineage who carry the mission and vision of the Joel Hall Dancers & Center forwards. Muntu Dance Theatre will present works highlighting contemporary and ancient African and African-American dance, music, and folklore. Both companies invite you to come together, practice joy as resistance, honor collective history and ancestors, and look forwards together.
*Muntu Dance Theatre will be joining the Joel Hall Dancers for the show on June 19 at 3pm
Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door.

Spectrum: Reimagined
The energetic and spiritual come to form in Sinclair's Following Omens and Namo. These choreographies manifest joy, peace, and excitement as they explore connection to each other. When joined with Berlin's Spectrum a sacred playground develops. The partnering of light and dance fills the viewers and the space at 150 N. Riverside with high-frequency vibrations that heal.
Dancing out of Time!
Join us and dancers across the United States from Seattle to Mississippi, from Maine to Miami, as we use movement to bring attention to the importance of water conservation.
On March 23, at 3pm CST, Joel Hall Dancers & Center will be presenting choreography by Moo Vang as our portion of the National Water Dance Day movement choir. We’ll see you at The Hall!
Ravenswood ArtWalk
The Joel Hall Dancers perform in partnership with the artwork of Ginny Sykes.
At the Ravenswood ArtWalk, a neighborhood tour of arts and industry, join us for a weekend of locally made art, artisan crafts, music, brews and food truck fare. In addition to our street fest, this event provides a rare opportunity to visit private studios and manufacturing businesses while exploring the architectural history of Ravenswood.
